Gernot Erler, Special Representative of the Federal Government of Germany for the OSCE Chairmanship in 2016, participated at the opening plenary of the biggest human rights conference in the OSCE-region, the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting in Warsaw.
Addressing delegations of the 57 participating States and representatives of civil society, Mr. Erler emphasized the essential importance of the OSCE human dimension and referred to the commitments in the human dimension as being at the “heart of European security”. Germany would do everything to sustain and to strengthen the acquis of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The Special Representative expressed the hope that the OSCE community would support the German chairmanship 2016 priorities in the human dimension, namely freedom of expression and freedom of the media with a special focus on combatting propaganda, minorities and their bridge building potential between states as well as tolerance and non-discrimination.
